The roles of language, communication and culture in creating a sustainable society make it imperative for authorities concerned to pay close attention to the ways in which knowledge in the humanities and social sciences can make a difference. To develop a sustainable and prosperous society, scientific knowledge alone is insufficient, for humans need not only material wealth but also the so-called “soft” subjects that are equally powerful in shaping one’s worldviews toward a sustainable livelihood. As such, now is the time to reclaim the roles of language, communication and culture in helping us to strive toward the ultimate goal of creating a sustainable society. To instigate ideas, exchange views and foster debates throughout our conference, the sub-themes then will include but not be limited to:

Language

Communication

Japanese
